The Fading Lights
Chapter1, My god is dark
.
.
It was so dark before the rain started to fall down, the lights were being consumed by the demons of darkness's sins, it was one of the most terrible nights of Khartoum city, people could smell the smell of fear crossing the city, and the fear of death follows from the fear of this city, a man who lives fully for long time at Khartoum is prepared to die at any time, while the sky was growing darker, painted black on black, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night, suddenly a man was holding a knife appeared when the lighting hit the sky, started to move around the buildings while the red blood was specking from the kinfe.
"I don't need to kill goats to say things, I don't need to kill them to make them understand, the life begins at night, the life must end at night" said the man to himself while he was looking at the blood on his knife.
As the sky became darker, and the lighting shone strongly, the rain started to fall down. The man stood immutably in his place looking at the sky. He was tall and plump, his eyes were wide and beautiful but full of forfeiture, his voice was hoarse and his clothes were so black hiding him in the darkness.
"The unwelcome rain of this night had perversely stolen my rite's last hour and pawned it with that ancient fence of light, fuck the lighting" said the man while he was looking back to the ground sadly.
As the time passed at that night the light started to take darkness away, the man knew that it is less than an hour and the morning will come, so no matter how deeply the man went down into himself, his god is dark, like a webbing made of a hundred roots that drink in silence, darkness was always his comfort zone.
"You like the smell of fear and blood, you enjoy people's suffering while they are entreating for their gods to let this night pass" said a man coming from a distance toward him.
"I am the sin of god, I have to purify people's souls from mistakes of their gods" replied the man while the rain was cleaning his knife.
"People are not in need of your purification, but you are" said the other man when he came closed to him.
The man took his knife and put it on the other man's chest and looking deeply into his eyes but he couldn't smell the smell of fear from him.
"Haitham, you can't kill me, I am not goat to be killed" said the other man.
He took his knife back and put it on his heart and before he pushed it to go inside he heard the man saying again "you are not goat too to be killed"
Then the man threw the knife away and said "it is being long time I don't see you, I thought I am not going to see you again"
"Darkness does not leave us easily as we would hope, my dear, I have come to offer for you a deal, a human soul must be taken so quickly quick, or all of us will be in mess" replied the man.
Haitham was silent for little time, before replying to what it has been mentioned, then he said to him "There were once two men who were not afriad of the darkness, because the darkness was full of the other's voice across the room, because even when the night was thick and starless, they walked home together from the river seeing who could last the longest without turning on his flashlight, not afraid because sometimes in the pitch of night they'd lie on their backs in the middle of the path and look up until the stars came back and when they did, they'd reach their arms up to touch them and did. To be honest I don't remember the person who wrote these words, I don't remember the time that I read these words"
"But I do know and they were not men, they were sisters" said the other man.
"So it is a female human soul" replied Haitham.
The two men started to leave the place while the sun was shining taking the smell of fear and death away, giving Khartoum city much time to heal itself from that night.
